Mid-paced-ride-fort-of

@Pastor-Kawesi, @Jonathan_Calderon, myself and probably someone else are going for a mid-paced ride tomorrow morning starting at 8am from the usual place.

The length of the ride is about 100Km, likely along a very well known route as the following:

The rules are always the same:

  • Check your name, if your last name is Voigt than you may decide to skip breakfast, otherwise feed yourself and bring snacks/gels/ chocolate cookies for the ride

  • Unless your are a camel, then I would suggest also to bring two fat bottles of water mixed with electrolytes as these help during the ride.

  • Your wheels have inner tubes that are filled with air and the air molecules will likely join their brothers and sisters at the first puncture … so bring extra inner tubes to trap those losers and a pump to push them in for good.

  • The Incredible Hulk informed me that he is not coming to the ride, so bring also the spanners to open remove the tyres from the clinchers, I tried cursing to them but trust me, spanners work better.

  • We all love gadgets, we spend hours of our lives on-line, it does not take too long to download the map of the ride into your beautifully Garmin, do so and you won’t get lost

  • The coffee place at Blackmore, where we will stop for a break, is not ran on charity hence it is best to bring some cash or a credit card (they accept it now). Their chocolate cakes are amazing !

  • Last but not least, make sure you know your limits, there was this guy who once decided to overcome his and than got stack between a rock and a hard place for 127h … meaning, you are welcome to join the ride but make sure you have done a similar ride before, for which the details are the following:

– Target Avg. 28-30km/h
– Target Distance 98km

GPX file:
Stratford to Blackmore.gpx (156.8 KB)

It will be fun … see you tomorrow.

Good luck with the ride tomorrow. I am hoping to be out and will head to Epping, ivy chimneys, Theydon Bois before home by 10:30- 10:45, if anyone wants a chilled riding buddy please feel free to join me, usual place and time. Please note - sorry, but this is not an accessible ride. The next accessible ride is next Sunday.

#7

I Hey fella - I’m nursing an injured hand (pedestrian injury) — this ride suits me as I need a casual test ride. Thanks for posting fella! #REHAB

Edit. Sorry @Sjh snoozed alarm and overslept, next week 100% if you are around

#8

Think the 100km ride is a bit optimistic for me as haven’t been out properly for a month.

Will aim to meet at 8.30am and either do a moderate paced 60km to Harlow and back if anyone else fancies, or else will join @Sjh.

#9

@Theqg_QG feeling sick as a dog this morning mate - will have to pull out. Enjoy.

Thank you @Jonathan_Calderon and @PatrickG (aka sexy calf man) and @haykelb and @edward in the last 10k when cramps took over.

#12

Hoping to finally join an accessible ride on the 22nd. Not been riding the last couple of weeks thanks to viral goodness and largely being at home :frowning: so will probably have lost speed already! I’ve noticed not cycling for a week slaps my average speed down when I start up again. Fingers crossed for the 22nd but will confirm nearer the time

#13

Hi, I’m relatively new to road cycling but I’d like to attend the accessible ride on the 8th

Will

#14

Anyone out for a mid paced ride this Sunday?

#15

Hi Will, Good to see you here and welcome, look forward to supporting you and don’t be afraid to ask any questions. :+1:

ACCESSIBLE RIDE - SUNDAY 8th October

Departure: 8:30am
Meeting place: Victory Park opposite of Sainsburys
Target Avg. Speed: 15mph (24kph)
Distance: 25-30m (40-50k)

Hi — I’ll be offering a 25-30mile (40-50km) ride to the Acorn Hut at High Beech, Epping Forest and back. This ride is aimed at road bike riders, no-one left behind.

Whilst this ride is accessible, the aim is to push yourself and improve your fitness in a safe and controlled environment.

We will aim for an AVERAGE across the ride of 15mph (24kph) - this is flexible based on the ability on the ride itself, ride leaders will look out anyone struggling with pace and adjust accordingly.

This is a ‘no drop’ ride, meaning we will wait for anyone who is struggling and work together as a team to reach our destination.

Prepare by:

  • Pumping your tyres to appropriate pressure 90-100psi on road tyre, oil your chain
  • Set correct saddle height and consider postion
  • Understand the distance
  • Take water and snacks during the ride
  • Carrying spare inner tube, levers etc.
  • Cash for getting home if you have serious mechanical issues
  • No need for rucksacks or luggage, remove D-Locks etc.
  • Have breakfast!

Please let me know here in advance by replying on this topic if you plan to join.

Thanks
Chris
